DESCRIPTION:
This is a 2 day course provides a general understanding of the many
issues involved in the ITS software acquisition process.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. The difference between software acquisitions and other
types of acquisitions.
2. The theme/guiding principles on which to build a software
acquisition.
3. The difference between developing requirements and technical
specifications.
4. Intellectual property rights issues and how to solve
them.
5. Managing ITS software acquisitions.
6. The criteria for accepting a system
7. Software maintenance considerations.
This seminar is focused specifically on ITS software development and acquisitioin processes. This seminar is a companion to, but not a prerequisite for, the "Lessons in ITS Procurement" course.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Transportation, traffic engineers and software procurement officers
for transportation agencies.
INSTRUCTORS:
Les Jacobson
Mr. Les Jacobson is an Intelligent Transportation System Specialist
with PC Farradyne. He was involved in developing ITS policy for the
Northwest Region and was a key member of Washington State's ITS model deployment
initiative. He received AASHTO's Alfred E. Johnson Achievement Award
in 1996 and the ITE ITS Council's Individual Achievement Award in 1999.
He is a registered professional engineer in Washington State. He
is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the ITS Council,
and is the secretary of the TRB HOV Systems Committee and a member of the
ITS Committee. He chaired the ITS America ATMS Committee from 1994
to 1998 and is a member of the Coordinating Council.
Edward J Seymour, Ph.D., PE
Dr. Edward Seymour oversees the operation of Texas Transportation Institute's
Research and Implementation Offices in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
These offices afford platforms for transferring transportation research
results into the deployment community, and they facilitate the delivery
of education to the transportation sector. From this research and
implementation perspective Dr. Seymour is involved nationally with leading
edge ITS standards and communications technologies including: advanced
transportation controllers, ITS standards and communication protocols,
National ITS Architecture, and ITS management and operations.
